Tool Guide for Lecturers
Learning requires collaboration, and in the dispersed environments in which we operate, both online learning and classroom interaction are critical. In this paper, we will discuss how teachers can interact with students online using the Moodle course management system. The various Moodle tools are discussed, informing teachers of how to facilitate effective interaction inside Moodle.

Getting Started
Turn Edit On or Off
option allows Teachers to add files and activities to the course. It can be found as a link in the Settings block
or as a button
at the top right of a course homepage. This option is only available to teachers of the course.
Adding Resources (files) and Activities to course
- Go to the desired course
- Ensure editing is turned on
- Go to the topic / section where you would like the new resource or activity to be placed
- Select either the 'Add an activity or recourse' menu
- Select the appropriate option from the pull down list
In Turn Editing On mode course files and activities may be added, removed, indented, moved, updated, deleted, hidden, shown.
Editing resources (files)/activities icons:

- Assignments enable teachers to grade and give comments on uploaded files and assignments created on and off line.
- Chats

- The chat module allows participants to have a real-time synchronous discussion via the web.
- Choices

- Here a teacher asks a question and specifies a choice of multiple responses.
- Databases

- The database module enables participants to create, maintain and search a bank of record entries.
- Forums

- Forums provide the opportunity for asynchronous discussions.
- Quizzes
Quizzes
- This module allows the teacher to design and set quiz tests, consisting of multiple choice, true-false, and short answer questions and more. Each attempt is automatically marked, and the teacher can choose whether to give feedback and/or to show correct answers.
- Glossaries

- The glossary module enables participants to create and maintain a list of definitions, like a dictionary.
- Questionnaire
Questionnaire
Create a wide range of questions to get student feedback e.g. on a course or activities. The goals of the Questionnaire module are quite different from those of the Lesson or Quiz modules. With Questionnaire you do not test or assess the student, you gather data.
- Lessons
Lessons
- Lesson activities can deliver content in interesting and flexible ways. It consists of a number of pages. Each page generally ends with a question and a number of possible answers, and leads to another page based on the student's choice.
